| Adopt-a-Trail Update -
Updated 04/2007 Once a piece of trail has been constructed, the real work begins! A new trail will not keep its value long without constant monitoring and maintenance. Trail adopters perform many jobs on the trail, including picking up litter, mending fences, controlling weeds, cutting brush, etc. They are also the “eyes on the trail” and report larger issues to the owning agency.
Clallam County:
Central Clallam County
In Central Clallam County, between Port Angeles and Sequim, the trail has been divided into 19 sections. All volunteer positions are filled at this time. The one mile section that is currently under construction at Hendrickson Road in Sequim has also been adopted. Contact Carrie Kalina at peripateticme@hotmail.com or at(360)681-0420 with any questions.
Adventure Route
West of Port Angeles is a section of the Olympic Discovery Trail called the Adventure Route, which provides more of a wilderness experience. The 3-foot wide path through the woods and on gravel roads is for equestrians, hikers, and mountain bikers. Adopters will be needed for the sections of trail still under construction near the town of Joyce -- between Joyce-Access Road and Joyce-Piedmont Road. For more information, contact Betsy Wyatt at sbwyatt@olypen.com or at (360)457-3102.
